Plot Summary
Aavesham centers on Aju, Bibi, and Shanthan, who relocate from Kerala to Bangalore, Karnataka, to pursue aeronautical engineering. They chose BK Hostel, run by the college clerk BK, for its perceived leniency. Their carefree existence is disrupted when they clash with Kutty, a senior student, leading to their abduction and subsequent beating by Kutty and his gang, only to be offered friendship afterward. Humiliated, Aju seeks revenge, leading them to Ranga, a notable Malayali-Kannadiga gangster always dressed in white.
A drunken escapade leads Ranga to take the trio to his old house, where they uncover a dark secret. Disappointed by Ranga’s passivity, Bibi’s confrontation provokes Ranga to publicly thrash Kutty and his gang during the college Holi celebration. Although facing expulsion, they are given another chance. Their bond with Ranga hampers their studies, escalating when Ranga kills two gang members trying to leave.
Kidnapped by Reddy, Ranga’s former boss, they flee to Tumkur, avoiding Ranga’s search. They refocus on their academics until they plan to confront Ranga with Reddy’s assistance. Betrayed yet victorious in his battle against Reddy’s gang, Ranga reveals his loneliness and the trio’s importance to him. The film concludes with Aju and Bibi failing an exam while Shanthan passes, and Ranga, now dressed in black, humorously punishes them outside the college.

In March 2023, Jithu Madhavan announced his second film with Fahadh Faasil, co-produced by Fahadh Faasil and Friends and Anwar Rasheed Entertainments. Though initially rumored to be a spin-off of Romancham, Madhavan clarified that Aavesham is a standalone film. The technical team included Sushin Shyam, Sameer Thahir, Vivek Harshan, and Ashwini Kale as music composers, cinematographers, editors, and production designers, respectively.
Fahadh Faasil, portraying the Bangalore-based gangster Ranga, adopted a distinctive look with a thick handlebar mustache and white attire. Sajin Gopu, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Ashish Vidyarthi had significant roles, alongside newcomers Pranav Raj, Hipzster, Mithun Jai Shankar, Roshan Shanavas, and Midhutty. Principal photography commenced in Bangalore and concluded in November 2023.
Music
The film’s soundtrack, composed by Sushin Shyam with lyrics by Vinayak Sasikumar, features nine songs performed by independent artists. The soundtrack was released by Think Music on April 19, 2024, preceded by singles "Jaada," "Galatta," "Illuminati," and "Mathapithakkale."
Release
Aavesham premiered on April 11, 2024, coinciding with the Eid al-Fitr and Vishu weekend. Initially slated for release during Onam and Christmas 2023, the film was postponed to the first quarter of 2024. Despite initial distribution disputes with PVR INOX multiplex chains, the film achieved significant pre-sale earnings. Garnering a U/A certificate from the CBFC, Aavesham had a final runtime of 157 minutes, with minor edits for the Kuwait release.
