Bad Boys: Ride or Die is back in 2024, starring the dynamic duo, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, in the fourth chapter of the beloved Bad Boys saga. This sequel to the 2020 hit, Bad Boys for Life, is directed by the talented Adil & Bilall and penned by Chris Bremner and Will Beall. Alongside Smith and Lawrence, we see returning faces like Joe Pantoliano, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, Jacob Scipio, and DJ Khaled. Notably, Tasha Smith steps into the role of Theresa Burnett, replacing Theresa Randle. Newcomers Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhea Seehorn, Melanie Liburd, and Tiffany Haddish spice up the cast. Bad Boys: Ride or Die Plot Unraveled
The film kicks off with Detective Mike Lowrey tying the knot with his physical therapist, Christine. Soon after, Mike and his partner, Marcus Burnett, dive into a murky investigation of corruption within the Miami Police Department. Their late Captain Conrad Howard is accused of being in cahoots with drug cartels. Desperate to clear Howard’s name, they turn to Mike’s son, Armando Aretas, who is currently incarcerated for Howard’s murder. Armando asserts Howard’s innocence and offers to help identify the real mastermind behind the frame-up.
As they transport Armando back to Miami, a dramatic helicopter ambush turns Mike and Marcus into fugitives, with U.S. Marshal Judy Howard, Captain Howard’s daughter, hot on their trail. The stakes escalate as they are pursued by every criminal gang in Miami. With a little help from AMMO team members Dorn and Kelly, who happen to be romantically involved, they unmask the villain: a rogue ex-DEA officer named James McGrath. In a showdown at an old alligator park, Mike, Marcus, and their allies rescue Christine and Callie (Howard’s granddaughter) from McGrath’s clutches. Judy, moved by Armando’s bravery in saving her daughter, lets him escape.

Production Journey
After the smashing box office debut of Bad Boys for Life, Sony quickly greenlit a fourth installment with Chris Bremner back on script duties. The production faced a hiccup in April 2022 following the infamous Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscars incident, but it was back on track by May. By February 2023, Smith and Lawrence were confirmed to reprise their roles, with Adil & Bilall returning as directors. Filming kicked off on April 3, 2023, across Atlanta and Miami, though it paused briefly due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in July 2023. Wrapping up by March 4, 2024, the film marched into post-production with editors Asaf Eisenberg and Dan Lebental at the helm.
Marketing Blitz
The marketing campaign kicked off with the first trailer on March 26, 2024, followed by a final trailer on May 16. In a unique promotional twist, Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler and Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi appeared in a special trailer on May 28.
Release and Reception
Bad Boys: Ride or Die dazzled audiences at its Dubai premiere on May 22, 2024, and launched in U.S. theaters on June 6, 2024. Initially set for a July 2019 release, the film's date was shuffled multiple times before settling on its current spot. The film is set to open alongside The Watchers and is expected to rake in around $40 million in its opening weekend across 4,000 theaters in the U.S. and Canada.
This rollicking ride promises action, laughs, and the unstoppable chemistry of Smith and Lawrence, making it a must-watch summer blockbuster.
