Inside Out 2 is a 2024 American animated coming-of-age film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. As the sequel to the 2015 hit, Inside Out, this film marks Kelsey Mann’s directorial debut. Plot Synopsis
Set a year after the original film, Inside Out 2 follows 13-year-old Riley as she transitions to high school. Her emotions—Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust—have established a new area in her mind called the Sense of Self. As Riley heads to hockey camp, a Puberty alarm disrupts the status quo, leading to the arrival of new emotions: Envy, Ennui, Embarrassment, and their leader, Anxiety. These new emotions challenge the existing ones, causing turmoil within Riley’s mind and affecting her actions and relationships.

Development and Writing
Following the success of the original Inside Out, the sequel’s development was considered inevitable. Director Pete Docter and the team began formulating ideas shortly after the first film’s success. Official development began in 2022, with Kelsey Mann stepping in as director. Mann focused on expanding the emotional landscape by incorporating a mix of familiar and new emotions, ensuring a balanced and coherent storyline.

Casting and Music
Amy Poehler's reprisal as Joy was secured with a lucrative deal, while other returning cast members joined on similar terms. However, Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling did not return due to pay disputes and were replaced by Tony Hale and Liza Lapira, respectively. New additions to the cast brought fresh dynamics to the film.
Andrea Datzman took over from Michael Giacchino to compose the film’s score, adding a new musical dimension to the sequel.
Release and Marketing
Inside Out 2 premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on June 10, 2024, and is set for a wide release on June 14, 2024, across various formats including RealD 3D, IMAX, and Dolby Cinema. The film also features at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Marketing efforts included a highly successful teaser trailer, viewed over 157 million times in its first 24 hours, and a Super Bowl LVIII spot named "Team".
