Noa, a young chimp from a clan of eagle tamers, embarks on a rite of passage that goes awry thanks to a bumbling human scavenger. After a group of ape raiders attacks his clan, leaving Noa for dead and abducting his people, he sets off on a daring rescue mission. Along the way, Noa teams up with Raka, a wise orangutan, and Mae, a human with a hidden agenda.
Together, they infiltrate the stronghold of Proximus Caesar, a bonobo with delusions of grandeur and a thirst for human tech. The film crescendos with a climactic showdown involving explosions, drowning, and some serious monkey business. Noa and Mae’s alliance is tested as they confront fundamental questions about the future of their species. Mae ends up in a high-tech human enclave, reactivating satellites to connect with other human survivors.
