Munjya, an upcoming Indian Hindi-language supernatural comedy horror film, is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under the banner of Maddock Films. This film, the fourth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, features an ensemble cast including Sharvari, Mona Singh, Abhay Verma, and Sathyaraj. Inspiration
In an interview with Mid-Day, Bhatt discussed the traditional four stages of life in Hinduism: Brahmacharya (student life), Gṛhastha (householder life), Vanaprastha (retirement), and Sannyasa (renunciation). He highlighted the Upanayan ceremony, known as Munjya in Marathi, marking the onset of the student phase, and the Sod Munja ceremony, signifying the transition to a householder life. If a man dies before marriage after his Munjya ceremony but before his Sod Munja, he becomes a Munjya spirit. These spirits, associated with peepal trees or wells, are feared, particularly because peepal trees release high levels of carbon dioxide after dark. Munjya spirits, who are childlike yet monstrous due to their untimely death, often trouble people by throwing stones and fulfilling their unfulfilled desires, particularly those relating to marriage.

Development
The story of Munjya was introduced to Maddock Films by Yogesh Chandekar. Bhatt and Kaushik spent three years developing the narrative, conducting extensive research in the Dapoli and Ganpatipule regions, known for their associations with Munjya legends. The film is notable as the first CGI film featuring an animated character within the Maddock Supernatural Universe. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Munjya delves into this intriguing folklore, with its teaser and trailer released in May 2024.
Casting
Sharvari and Abhay Verma lead the cast. Sharvari’s character is described as a modern woman focused on achieving her dreams, which is relatable to many in today's society. Mona Singh, Sathyaraj, Suhas Joshi, and Rasika Vengurlekar also play significant roles, with Vengurlekar's participation highlighted in the teaser.

The shooting took place in the scenic Konkan region.
